Planting the Garden

Time for a new update:

The White House vegetable garden was planted on April 9th by the First Lady, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack as well as the group of elementary school children from Bancroft Elementary that helped with the ground breaking.

Let us all hope for the best the garden continues to be a success and the children have something to come harvest!

Groundbreaking

The groundbreaking for the White House garden was Friday March 20th. The First Lady was quoted as saying, "This is a big day. We've been talking [about] it since the day we moved in," She had help from 2 dozen local students with the groundbreaking. Those two dozen kids will be involved in the garden as the grows and develops.
It looks like they had a nice day for it at least!

The Garden is Announced

March 19,2009

The First Family decides to plant a vegetable g
arden at the White House! It has been mentioned before, but this is the first one since Eleanore Roosevelt.

Personally I'm thrilled. I think it will be a good thing for both the First Family as well as the rest of the nation. The fact they will be having a garden will hopefully encourage other people to plant their own
vegetable gardens or at least eat more fresh produce.

I also like the fact they are incorporating children from local schools to help with the gardening process. It's a great way to get kids involved in something active and healthy! Who knows, maybe the local kids in my area will want to get a garden going!?!
